Handwriting Analysis
My very first experience of Graphology was watching an old Sherlock Holmes’ film and being fascinated by the possibility of analysing someone’s handwriting as a means of detection. This intrigue was then fuelled further by the amazing ability of Diane Simpson on a TV program called ‘Lifelines’. Ms Simpson repeatedly confounded the viewers by her accuracy in analysing the handwriting of celebrities on this show, so much so that I decided to learn all I could about this Science/Art. Initially this was in an effort to prove or disprove the apparent accuracy of Graphology.
Several years of research, reading and private tuition followed and I became completely fascinated with this uncanny ‘skill’. I then decided that this skill needed studying and testing further and more scientifically, from a psychological aspect, so I began the process by taking a Mature Access Programme at the University of Sheffield. Whilst doing this psychology course, I discovered that one of my tutors was a keen Graphologist too and she gave me my first opportunity to share my knowledge of Graphology by inviting me to make a guest speaker appearance at a Psychology Summer School. The students enjoyed the talk so much that the meeting adjourned to the college bar, where I fielded questions and analysed beer mat scribbles into the night. The feedback from this first public appearance was so encouraging that as a result I was asked to create and present a trial university day-course. This too was a fully subscribed success, so I wrote my first 12-week course and submitted it for approval to the Science Department of the University of Sheffield. Subsequently Graphology was adopted as a science subject in the 1993 Continuing Education Department programme and ran for several years. I went on to become a fully qualified teacher and deliver courses, public talks and demonstrations all over England. I have made several day time appearances on Radios Sheffield, Leeds and Nottingham along with appearances on Dean Jackson's late night show on BBC Radios Nottingham, Derby and Leicester
I am now researching my specialism of tree doodle analysis for a book that I hope to have published by Christmas 2023
